Why do you need the IMEI and EID number to activate my eSIM?

For most eSIMs sold through Vuoly, you won't need to enter device specific details —you simply scan a QR code or use an install link, and you're ready to go. However, some eSIMs, such as those from T-Mobile, require additional information during the activation process, specifically your device’s IMEI and EID numbers. Here's why these numbers are needed and how they play a role in activating your eSIM.

What Are IMEI and EID Numbers?

  • IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity): A unique number used to identify your specific mobile device. It helps network providers ensure that only authorized devices can connect to their networks.

  • EID (Embedded Identity Document): A unique number associated with the eSIM chip embedded in your device. Similar to how a physical SIM card has its own identifier, the EID allows carriers to manage and authenticate eSIM profiles linked to a particular device.

Why Do We Need These Numbers?

For T-Mobile eSIMs, the IMEI and EID numbers are essential because the eSIM will be linked directly to your specific device. This allows the carrier to ensure that your eSIM works only on the device it was activated for, enhancing security and preventing unauthorized usage.

On iPhones, you’ll receive a prompt on iOS to install your eSIM automatically without the need to scan a QR code. This seamless process simplifies activation. On Android devices, you’ll need to scan the QR code sent in the confirmation email to complete the setup.

How to Find Your IMEI and EID Numbers

Both numbers can be found in the settings of your device. Here’s how to locate them:

  • On iPhone:

    1. Go to Settings.

    2. Scroll down and tap General.

    3. Tap About.

    4. Scroll down to find your IMEI and EID numbers.

  • On Android:

    1. Go to Settings.

    2. Scroll down and tap About phone.

    3. Tap Status or IMEI information.

    4. Look for your IMEI and EID numbers.

These numbers may also be listed on your phone’s packaging or in the original purchase documentation. Or you can dial *#06# to bring up a screen with your device information.
