How to Check Your Data Usage on iOS and Android

Tips on managing data usage while traveling to make the most of your eSIM

Most Vuoly eSIMs include built-in usage tracking right in your dashboard, but there are a few exceptions. If that's the case, you won't see real-time data use there, but the good news is you can check your consumption directly on your device. Here's how on iPhone and Android.

Checking data usage on iPhone

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Cellular (called Mobile Data in some regions).

  3. Scroll to Cellular Data Usage. You'll see how much data you've used in the current period. If you have more than one SIM or eSIM, tap your Vuoly eSIM line to see its individual usage.

  4. Optional: A new eSIM starts counting from 0 automatically. If you're reusing an eSIM you topped up for another trip, scroll down and tap Reset Statistics to start a fresh count.

Tip: iPhone keeps a separate counter for each eSIM, so a brand-new eSIM already reads accurately from 0. The number only carries over if you reuse the same eSIM across multiple trips — in that case, reset the stats at the start of each trip.

Checking data usage on Android
Steps vary a little by brand (Samsung, Google Pixel, etc.), but in general:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections on some phones).

  3. Select Mobile Network or Data Usage.

  4. If you have more than one SIM or eSIM, tap your Vuoly eSIM to see its individual usage.

  5. You can also set a data warning or limit to avoid going over.

Tip: On some Android phones you'll need to pick the date range manually. Set it to match the day you started using your eSIM for a more accurate reading.

Set a data warning (optional)
To get a heads-up as you near your limit:

  1. In Mobile Network or Data Usage, tap Data Warning & Limit.

  2. Turn on Set Data Warning and enter an amount (e.g., 5 GB for a 5 GB plan).

  3. Optional: Turn on Set Data Limit to stop data once you reach a set amount.

Tip: Some Android phones can track usage per app, so you can see which apps use the most data while you travel.

Why track your data usage?
If your Vuoly eSIM doesn't include dashboard tracking, checking usage on your device helps you:

  • Avoid running out of data before your trip ends.

  • Keep background data in check so apps don't use data unnecessarily.

  • Make the most of your plan.
